High Streets Heritage Action Zones
Unlocking the potential of high streets across England
The £95 million government-funded High Streets Heritage Action Zone programme, delivered by Historic England, has unlocked the potential of 67 high streets across England. Combining investment in buildings and shop fronts with community engagement and cultural events, the programme has helped to boost pride in place, connect communities and drive economic growth.

Hi!Streets are the heart of our communities
More than 60 high streets received funding to give them a new lease of life. The lead partners in each place (mostly local authorities) have worked with Historic England to develop and deliver schemes to transform and restore disused and dilapidated buildings into new homes, shops, work places and community spaces, restoring local historic character and improving public realm.
The High Streets Heritage Action Zone initiative has been funded with £40 million from the Department for Digital, Culture Media and Sport’s Heritage High Street Fund and £52 million from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Future High Street Fund. A further £3 million has been provided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to support a cultural programme.
